Ours was a Bible camp romance. We met at Outlook Bible Camp in central Saskatchewan. My family always went. Twyla was there, along with her brothers and sisters; an uncle brought them. She was 12. I was 13. We held hands and sat together at the campfire. We hunted for salamanders and took long walks.

When she went home from camp, she told her mom she had met the guy she was going to marry.

I don’t know what she saw in me then, but about seven years later, she married me. She still likes spiders and snakes and long walks.
